Extra income for cops? Any info?
I've heard that sometimes cops get free or 50% rent for living in an apartment complex and being the "security guy" when he's available. Does anybody know anything about this? I've looked on the internet and can't find anything except for 10% discounts that are given to all officers.

Re:Extra income for cops? Any info?
Be honest with you I've never heard of even 10% off anything for being a Law enforcement officer. At the current time I'm working part time as a police officer in another city because they are short handed for some of their people are gone to war or at the Academy

I've heard about it, but do you really want to have to deal with all the drama? Think about it, parking complaints, neighborhood disputes, petty junk, all while you try to sleep. Just not my thing.

Re:Extra income for cops? Any info?
Some departments, like mine, have it written in their S.O.P. that officers are not supposed to get involved in law enforcement action (off duty) in the neighborhood they live in. (Unless necessary to save life or property) I suppose to save the officer from problems with his/her neighbors in the future.
Most officers I know, myself included, work part-time at another department and/or pick up security jobs on the side. |

Re:Extra income for cops? Any info?
I don't know if i would want to advertise that im a cop to some of my neightbors. I mean I guess Im nto going to stand by if something is happening (life/property)
Has having your neightbors know you are cops lead to any problems? alienation by some of your neightbors? pranks, (lack of) maybe you're kids friends want/don't want to come over b/c of your status? BF/GF problems/incedents?

Re:Extra income for cops? Any info?
Our SOP states if you are a LEO then its 24/7..
As far as Apartment discounts, there are PLENTY here, either its 1 Ofc in a 1br 1bath for free, or 1 ofc 2br 2bath for 50% off, My two friends are roomates in a 1300 sq ft apartment and pay nothing.. Nice Place too.. The only thing they have to do is pass out letters occasionally. There is one complex that is ghetto, 2br 2bath for free plus salary from the complex. I dont even live in my juridiction and I get 10% off.. I dont do anything... haha. Most of the new officers in our dept get the "not so great Apts". I was offered a 3br townhouse, normally $1800/mo, for Police $900/mo (brand new and very nice).. It all depends on where you work.. B-Safe. P.S. where are you in GA? |

There are some agencies that have done this... I think LA, Philly or somehting like that. Large agencies that have a specific crime area that they need to target, and boost moral support for the people in that area.

Re:Extra income for cops? Any info?
in LA we have the Officer next door program..
www.goldenfeather.com works only for like revitilization neighborhoods(ghetto) heh.. officer/teacher can buy property for 50% off price.. so not bad.. stipulation you must live there for 3 years as your primary residence and not purchase any other property in that timeframe.. as long as you follow them rules then after 3 years you can do whatever you want.. pretty good.. its kinda hit and miss lotta the homes are really badneighborhoods and run down.. but ive heard you can get some real nice ones.. just luck of the draw.. its a lotto system you have one week to see the listings, check houses and then put in the intent thing. you get lotta number after the 7 days random pick chooses winner.. nothing good this week that i can see.. wouldn't mind picking up a nice 200k+ home.. at that price should be kinda nice... and since you only paying for a 100k home.. even better... after 3 years boom instant 100k equity in the house.. plus any appreciation.. good investment.. |
