Description -

General Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive investigations into all bomb & explosive related matters in this state.

Specific duties:
Conduct render safe and/or removal of improvised explosive devices, incendiary devices, explosives, explosive chemicals, pyrotechnics and ammunition that present a danger to public safety and provide legal and safe disposal of each material. Prepare and submit comprehensive & clearly written reports of investigations to delineate all violations of law and/or investigations. Conduct post bomb crime scene investigations to identify, collect, preserve and evaluate evidence for adjudication and compile & prepare technical data on devices and incidents. Provide nutritional needs, groom and maintain health of bomb k-9 on daily basis; train bomb k-9 to a high state of readiness; maintain a professional relationship with other bomb k-9 units. Provide EOD expertise on nuclear, biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction (WMD) as a part of sled wmd response team. Assist state, county, and municipal authorities in development of emergency response plans for dealing with bomb threats, improvised explosive devices and explosive materials emergency situations. Assist in presentation of training & educational programs to increase awareness of law enforcement in proper handling of explosive materials. Provide assistance to law enforcement authorities upon direction of captain with regard to riot, national disaster, protection of dignitaries and criminal activities as they may relate to duties of a SLED agent. Perform related duties as required.

Preferred qualifications:
Certified police officer who has completed basic bomb school at redstone in Huntsville, Alabama (FBI/Redstone bomb school certificate in good standing). Applicants holding a current FBI/Redstone bomb school, military EOD or explosives certificate will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

How to apply - Must reside in or relocate to SC county of Lancaster, Kershaw, Fairfield, Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Saluda, Aiken, Edgefield or Mccormick and work 43 weekly hours subject to emergency call 24 hours/7 days/week. Conduct dangerous investigations subjected to hazardous explosive material on regular basis. Attend basic training at SC Criminal Justice Academy for law enforcement officer certification, if not certified. Agent exam required: candidates who have not taken and passed the agent exam will be scheduled to take exam once application is received & qualifications determined. Only candidates who have submitted an application & qualify will be scheduled for the exam. The exam will be given at the SLED Headquarters Building, 4400 Broad River Road in Columbia, SC at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 28, 2006.
