Pam Anderson is a friend of mine. She came to Australia from the USA, with her husband who works at at a US Military Base here in Australia. Marriages and relationships can be fragile, as it was for Pam. She and her husband split up. She has been in Australia for almost 18 years. Her daughter is married to an Australian and has had children, making Pam a Grandmother.

Pam has worked in Australia as a counsellor, guidance officer and other jobs which entail assisting those in need. She has never received any type of Australian Govt welfare or subsidies. She would also collect unwanted goods and deliver them to charities such as Salvation Army and St Vincent De Paul.

She and her husband split up and evetually got divorced. She continued doing what she did under her Visa to work in Australia. Within a week of the divirce becoming official, the She recived a phone call from the Australian Immigration Dept telling her that her visa has been revoked and that she had 14 days to leave Australia.

She testifies that she no longer has any ties with the USA. She says she has nothing to go back to. She whas no home, no job and no family in the US. All her ties are now within Australia. The Australian Immigration dept said no and she recived a deportation order. She is curently fighting that in the courts.

Meanwhile, there are around 300 people a week arriving on Australian shores on illegaly chartered boats seeking asylumn, claiming refugee status. These people are from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and other middle eastern countries. These people destroy their documents once they see Australian Authorities, leaving Australian Authorities a nightmare in establishing if they are truly refugees ot people merelyb seeking a better lifestyle. ( rumours abound that some have Bin Laden associations). They have no links with Australia and have in most cases, nothing to offer our country. Poor education, no money, no skills.

And yet, Pam is being deported. She is currently seeking Ministerial intevention to allow her to stay. What do you think?

Well if she looks like the other Pamela Anderson she can come live with me... but getting my wifes approval... might be easier to get the Ministerial Intervention... It really is a sad story.

:'( Rule,

governments in the so called civilized world are all the same. Those who are looking for fortune are welcome and get everything. People who are no "refugee" and are doing their thing for society get kicked out of the country.

These kind of cases get my blood boiling.

We have people in California bending over backwards to accommodate ‘illegal aliens’. Yet when there actually is a legitimate case to help a foreign national who has and will continue to positively contribute to the United States, the authorities don’t use any logic.

This is not the same type of situation as in Rule's example but it shows how idiotic governmental agencies can be. There was a local case here in which an underage (17) boy’s parents died in a car accident. The parents and the boy were Canadian citizens. His grandmother, an American citizen, wanted to take care of the boy. However, for reasons only the bureaucrats are aware of, they insisted on deporting the kid. He had no relatives in Canada. I do not recall all the details of the case but it was a long, hard battle to get someone to be reasonable and let him stay.

I believe that the only way you should be allowed into another country is by permission and by following the laws for entry.

This is annoying and anyone that is working at and contributing towards the country they are living in should be allowed to stay..Unless they have a criminal background, etc..Then they should be deported back to the country they came from..I hope she gets to stay..

She currently has a petition going around town which is receiving a lot of public support.

All these months later, she is still in australia, and still under a deportation order. She has had the deportation stayed while she appeals to the Minister of Immigration. While she is waiting for the hearing of her case, she remains not permitted to work and lives from the support of her friends.
So what has she been doing...? She donated one of her kidneys to a friend who would have died without the transplant.
She is the type of person who should be awarded the "Australian of the Year", except she is not an Australian. (not yet).

Maybe you could marry her? Wouldn't that solve the problem? Or someone you know could....

Just 2 weeks ago, she has been granted a visa to stay. All she has to do now is formalise her residency status (just a paper trail). All's well that ends well.
