I do not think that President Bush's statement that the major fighting is over is correct. There have been a number of deaths due to hostile actions by Iraq military or militia forces recently and even after the president said that the major fighting is over. In a article titled "Bush Pays Tribute to U.S. War Dead" it said in the article that "Bush announced an end to major hostilities on May 1." But another part of the same section said "About 140 Americans were killed in Iraq. Since Bush announced an end to major hostilities on May 1 and the focus shifted to stabilization and reconstruction, another two dozen soldiers have died." I do not think that the loss of 24 military personel due to attacks shows a end to major hostilities. What is the definition of a major hostilities under the presidents eyes? I would think that many in the military, or for that matter civilian/LE, would view any attack by a enemy force a major hostile act reguardless of casualities.

Well thats just my opinon, whats yours? I would especially like to hear from those of you who have had military experience or are in the military.

Note: I am not in anyway a protestor of the war, or a anti-war/gov't. I am very patriotic and am signing up with the US Army this summer (Summer of 03'), I am the first person to say that I support the war, US military, and LE in my class regardless of the heat that might come down and am completely dedicated to the US Military. I would just like to hear others views on this.

I think that we are going to see a lot more of that I saw in the paper today: 3 soldiers killed, 6 wounded in a traffic accident.

While teh major conflict is over, there are still minor ones, and stuff like, traffic accidents, ADs, (accidental Discarges), collapsing buildings and other "non combat" deaths are going to happen. They always do. (Helocopter crashes, claimed a number of lives before the offensive even started)

I believe that the MAJOR fighting is over, all the bombing and huge assults. Of course we are going to continue to fight like we have for some time now but for the most part the MAJOR fighting is over.

I know it sounds cruel but 24 dead is not MAJOR.

The major fighting IS over. But 'major' is in the eye of the soldier. You know, the one over there still fighting.

With the continuous deaths and injuries of US soldiers, I can not tangibly see a rapid end to all this. Due to the extremism of some people in that region, I believe this will go on for many years.......

Since May 1st when the President declared that major combat is over, we have lost more than 50 US Soldiers. That is close to a quater of the total overall.

I read in my local paper this morning that the pres. is saying US military personnel may be in Iraq for at least 5 more years. :o

Yeah well the newspapers say alot of things, some not always accurate.

I do agree with that we should rap this up ASAP and bring our boys and girls home with the least amount of casualties, but not at the expense of leaving a job unfinished. We've done that before and nothing good ever came out of unfinished business.

as for teh "five more years" when I was at camp Riley over the weekend I was with the 2nd battalion, 194th Armor, US army National Guard, MN. they are getting ready for SOFOR 14 rotation to Bosnia for peacekeeping duties, they will be there for 6 months and then be releaved by another guard/reserve/active unit. they usually have at least one active unit and then the rest are reserves or guard...

I agree with those that say the action is not over....I see it from a different view point....the personnel...the equipment...
the good and the bad.....the brain of the grounds operations are located in our area....its the story on CNN titled "Inside the War Room"...our office is located on the other end of the their building.....

One of the pictures in this article shows the CG donning his mask..as we had one of the many scuds that were shot at our location....

I happen to be on duty during all the shots that came our way......chills run down your spine when you can look up...see an incoming scud...and (3) PAT's making contact with each other....within sight of your location.........

The US Civilian Security Force protected and defended Camp Doha before, during and after the war.......
