TROOPER TRAP is an officer safety tool designed to assist in simple and standard officer safety tactics. TROOPER TRAP alerts the officer to an escape attempt by sounding an external alarm if the detainee unhooks the seatbelt. www.troopertrap.com

I've had someone jump out of my car that was handcuffed and run off (later caught) and my department had a car stolen just like this and wrecked. We have cages now so that shouldn't happen but for troopers who often times don't have them....this is interesting.

that looks like a GREAT product.

2 things (I happen to be in critique mode today...)
1. In a squad car, would it be hooked to a louder sound than the horn? Concerned b/c you might nto be able to hear the horn on a noisy freeway....I had trouble hearing it on a laptop in a noisy room
2. what about throwing the switch on teh doorframe or maybe on the other side of the car? I know that if I saw an officer reach down and hit a switch just before leaving me (and my brain was working) I would try to hit that switch again....Also, what about opening the door and hitting the switch?

just my $0.02

The alarm outputs for my device were selected with one important purpose in mind - MONEY. I know most departments do not have money to buy extra cool bells ad whistles for their patrol cars or transport units, some officers still have to get their own bullet proof vests to wear on duty. You have to remember the video clip was shown as a demo, the swtich was placed there for the camera only!!.

With that thought the car alarm siren and the car horn are the 2 best, already paid for alarm siren devices on the vehicle. You could hook it up to the regular siren, but different sirens would require different wiring diagrams and some transport units do not have a siren. I have had no problem with mine alerting me.

There is an optional add-on siren I supply that installs to the alarm output wire to activate an internal alarm siren in the vehicle which puts out 109db of siren. That wakes prisoners.

For the switches, those are yours to put where you or your department wants. You don't put a label on the switch saying SEATBELT ALARM and put the switch in reach. You have to put the switch out of their reach so you can use the seatbelt alarm with and without the person handcuffed.

I put the person in the car and seatbelt them in. I then walk around getting in the car and call for a wrecker or just talk to the prisoner and flip the switch which is out of their sight and reach while I am talking to them.

I kept this device simple to keep cut wires or bad connections for happening which would not let the device work properly. Let me know about any other questions, comments, or ideas. Tactical people will tell you, people follow the path of least resistance, unbuckle the seatbelt and step out or steal the car.

Thanks Alan.

yeah, I guess the informative public video isn't the best to critique....sorry :P

but it sounds like you know what you're doing. hope departments start buying them!!!!
