Concealed carry is way better than open carry. I don't see why anyone that has a concealed carry license would want to participate in this event. If you show that you have a weapon you then lose the element of surprise.
I know quite a few officers that have been shot walking into a convenience store, bank, grocery store, etc and been shot because of their job. Very rarely do I hear of an normal citizen walking in and being shot. One may say it's because they are the police. I think it's more because the suspect knows it's a person with a gun that can potentially shoot back.
I don't understand what National Open Carry Day is trying to accomplish.
First, I am not convinced that a right restricted is always the same as a right denied.
My personal opinions, however, can be viewed here

I think if it is well publicized and the public has had enough time to talk about the idea, maybe it might not be so bad. It is like gay marriage, many in society are just getting tired of the topic and it's losing its "radicalness".
My vote for the date of national open carry day would be January 13 every year. That would be perfect.

hmmm.... that's interesting, neither of the MN Concealed carry forums that I frequent have any mention of this...
I personally think that Open Carry has it's times (and in some cases it's necessity due to weather/other conditions) but I think as a general rule, esp in libereal areas, Concealed is the best option.
Now I have the benefit, that I could walk in anywhere, with one strapped to my leg, and people would just think I'm a cop. But I know individuals (including the one who taught my Permit to Carry class) who couldn't pass for a cop if they wanted to.

Concealed is definitely the better option.

OMG! The only thing worse than a criminal with a gun is an untrained individual with a gun. The organizers of such an event need to realize that the 4th of July weekend is one of the most deadly summer holidays, and that's just traffic fatalities and domestic violence; add guns to the mix and you've got catastrophy! While I am a gun advocate, I am even more an advocate of responsibilty.

Did you read the website? it talks about being responsible and knowing your state's laws regarding the carry of a firearm. in MN you have to have a permit to carry openly or concealed.

I think you've been watching too much CNN.
Your assumptions don't bear out in reality. Check out the other thread.
